We have all heard the saying “what got you here, won’t take you there.” In other words, what you did to get to your present level of success won’t get you to the next level of success. For the most part, I believe this to be true. Principles never change, but means and methods always do and it takes both to achieve success.
Consider your personal growth plan for the next year:
- What will you do differently to take your leadership to the next level?
- What books will you read?
- What CD’s, and podcasts will you listen to?
- What experiences do you want?
- What person(s) do you need to meet?
Motivational author and speaker Charlie Tremendous Jones says: “You will be the same person 5 years from today except for the people you meet, and the books you read.”
A leader’s personal growth plan should also include time to reflect on what’s happening in his or her life. Most people today don’t slow down long enough to think, and reflect. Looking back to see what’s happened in the rear view mirror will allow you to purposefully plan the future. Living your life on purpose will allow you to keep growing and fulfill your dreams.
Leaders need to have a personal growth plan to keep leading effectively. So what does your personal growth plan look like?
