Have you ever thought about what your personal brand is in the marketplace?  Larry Linne, author of the book “Brand Damage-It’s Personal” says this:  “Your personal brand is what people think of you.  Everyone has a brand.”  Linne believes that personal brand management will be a strategic initiative in every business by 2015---if they want to survive!

Let’s do an exercise.  Write down what you think your clients, co-workers, family, and friends would say about you.  List all the positive and negative things.  Now, write down all the things you would want people to think about you, if you were trying to get the most out of those relationships (desired brand).  Are the lists the same?  Or are they different?

What I found for myself is that the lists were different.  However, I have found by being purposeful, and changing my behaviors, I can make the second list (desired brand) a reality.   For example,  I made some behavior changes such as being more proactive in conversations, and purposeful choices concerning dress and appearance.

Think about how many times you are being looked up on the internet through Google or LinkedIn.  What do these tools tell people about your personal brand?  Is it what you want your desired brand to be?

If you want help in building your personal brand, we have developed a tool to walk you through the steps of building your desired brand.  Contact us and we will send you the tool.
